Mission Statement

Labrador Retriever Rescue Ontario is a volunteer-staffed, non-profit organization. Our mission is to rescue, foster, and adopt out unwanted, abused/mistreated, neglected, or abandoned Pure Bred Labrador Retriever Dogs.

LRRO is similar in nature to other humane groups, and animal rescue organizations with a specific focus on the Labrador Retriever Breed. The dogs rescued by LRRO live with foster families where they are evaluated, spayed, neutered, and appropriately cared for until they are adopted.

Policy Statements

Type of Service

The LRRO will operate as a Full Rescue Operation within the geographic parameters adopted by the board of directors. These parameters may change from time to time at the direction of the board.

The LRRO may act as a Referral Service for the benefit of Labrador Retrievers in need where the request is outside the geographic parameters described above or on an as needs basis.

Foster Homes

The LRRO will engage the services of individual Dog Owners and/or Kennel Operators in the capacity of Foster Homes providing the accommodations are appropriate and the Volunteers have an appropriate level of experience in dealing with and providing for dogs.

Observers

Wherever possible, the LRRO will engage the services of an Observer with an observation period of three days. This three day observation period is intended to act as a guide line, longer or shorter observation periods may be employed as necessary. The Observer must posses the appropriate qualifications as detailed in the official job description.

Follow Up

Multiple contacts should be made with the adoptive family during the early stages of the adoption to ensure that the new family and dog are adapting well. The methods used to communicate with the adoptive family must be balanced against the familys need for ongoing support and the cost in delivering the service.

Only Pure Breed Labrador Retriever Dogs are eligible for adoption through the LRRO Rescue Service. By Pure Breed Labrador Retriever we mean dogs that are supported by appropriate identification such as Tattoo or Microchip. Dogs not supported by such identification will be required to undergo a breed evaluation by a person deemed qualified to perform such evaluations before being accepted into the program.
