Kernal

It has been two years since I first saw kernal's photo on the internet! he has become one of the most wonderful experiences in our lives!! As you can see by his portrait , he is a handsome well adjusted and extremely well loved friend. And completely spoiled!!! He has his own bed- literally- an antique four poster in the front bedroom where he can look out and see what is happening on the street.
Kernal is truly a Retriever! He has a floating Kong, which he expects us to continually throw into the pool for him. We have taught him to climb out the ladder! He has tried to retrieve me eon my float too!!!!! Kernal is great with our grandchildren in and around the house. Kernal has found a good home and we feel blessed to have him.
Donna
Mike and Ottilia

Congratualtions to Mike and Tili Owenmarried this year 2005. Sophie their flower girl was adopted through us and is an absolute sweetheart!
Pancho

Pancho is having lots of fun settling in to his new family. His original family were transferred and were heartbroken to give him up but Panch being a typical Lab came in to his new family all wags and wiggles with lots of love to give. The son pictured in bed is his favourite he really seems to have taken to MacKenzie their eldest child and each morning they have to stop him from running into their room to wake them up - he still gets up at 5:15-5:30 in the am! Apparently Pancho has quite the jokey side and loves to sit in a rubbermaid container that they keep at the bottom of the pool slide so that the kids rinse off their feet before going down the slide and back into the pool. Pancho will sit in it so that the kids have to go around him and will just sit with his bottom in it- it' s a big doggie joke!!They really adore him and feel quite lucky to have him
Mojo

Mojo the chocolate Lab we got from Ham /Burl SPCA .. the dog that Joan and Joanne harassed people about, drove all over Ontario for , chased across parking lots , was dragged down hills by........and had a bill that made him the million dollar dog LOL ...well ...ta da....
Mojo graduated obedience school! Mojo's new Mom a lovely lady named Marion absolutely adores her Mosley as he is lovingly referred to. He even has a best friend a little black cat named Inky! Mojo was a tough placement who was in our program for 5 months and turned down by 27 - yes 27 different families for a whole list of reasons- all their loss because he is a great guy and his Mom Marion ( and yes he still has his moments) knows just how special he is and now he is a Graduate!
Trixie

 |
Trixie (yellow Lab) loves her new
family
and built in best friend Daytona.
She thinks two noses are better than one! |
We adopted Trixie a 2 + yr. old yellow lab 9mths ago. She has turned out to be such a sweet heart. Trixie and Daytona our 6 yr. chocolate male have become the best of friends. They play, nap and eat together and bark at the mail lady everyday. Trixie loves the homemade cookies and has gained a pound or two since being here.
Her coat is shinny and full now as opposed to the food allergy shedding she had when we got her. She sleeps on her bed in our room and is wonderful with our five and two yr. old boys. We have all become extremely attached to her as she is the sweetest natured dog you could ever wish to own. Her personality says "love me, love me" and that's what she gets from everyone here.
 |
Trixie enjoyed her first Christmas with her
new family. mom Diana says she caught
on to opening presents pretty fast! |
She has learned many new commands and is used to all the new rules. She
was fairly easy to train and enjoys all the daily routines. Mind you it took a couple of months of nurturing as she was quite timid when we got her, understandably. Daytona was a big help in the training process. He helped along with the teaching when Trixie struggled on a command.
Trixie loves going to the cottage. She has learned how to swim and loves swimming along the canoe with Daytona. She also loves boating and fishing with her Daddy and Daytona. She is great walking through trails up north and stays close by. One call and she is at your side.
We will be moving up north in the next six months and hope to give her and Daytona even more of a yard to play in, more trails and water fun as well.
She wears her pink collar and is the only other female besides myself in a
house hold full of males. She has a very expressive face for a lab. I'll be
sending some pictures to follow.
Thank you again.
Diana
Storm

This Sunday October 24th marks the 8-month anniversary of when I
adopted Storm from your organization. I thought that this would be
the perfect opportunity to give you an update on how he has been. I
have attached a
few
photos of Storm that I had taken this past July for his 3rd birthday.
Hopefully you can add them to the lab tales on your website. As you
can see, he is a very handsome fellow with a great big Labrador smile.
As to be expected from any rescued dog, Storm had his fair share of
quirky behavior to work out in the beginning. He was a cheeky little
monkey who loved to get into everything. If he could get his hands on
any form of paper he would tear it to shreds. He also had some rather
unusual fears that we had to work through. Storm was very unsure of
water and at first would not swim. He also used to be afraid of
walking up and down the stairs; he would just sit and bark refusing to
budge. A lot of attention, love, patience, and of course treats along
with Storms natural ability to please fixed everything.
Now Storm is a very confident, happy and social dog with so much love
to give. At times he is even more social than his mommy. His
adorable and charming personality has made him very popular with the
other dogs and people in the neighborhood. He still makes me laugh
every time he greets someone with his full body wiggle; he is such a sucker for attention.
Some of his favorite past times include: taking walks in the woods,
playing
fetch at the park with all of his doggie friends, splashing around in
his paddling pool in the back yard, playing with his many toys, taking
trips
to
the pet store to pick out a new treat, and of course taking a nap
after
all
of the excitement.
I am truly grateful for the wonderful match that you made between an
owner and pet. Storm is a definite example of the exceptional efforts
put forth by the Labrador Retriever Rescue.
Sincerely,
Leona
Bosco

Bosco really is a handsome boy, and everyone who meets him thinks so. He loves to sit at the front door and watch all the activityon the bird feeder. We all had fun at Christmas together. Everyone we show the pictures to asks the same thing:
who owns the house? You guys or Bosco??

Buster

Buster and his new friend Mak
had a great visit with Santa.
Buster didn't have to ask for anything
as he has a wonderful new family
who absolutely love him
and spoil him to bits!
Jazzie

Jazz is currently participating in doggie obedience (which he really doesnt need as hes already a really good boy, but its still fun!!!) and loves to lounge on the couch by day and hang out with Jenn, Ed and G.P. (the guinea pig) at night. Regular weekend hobbies include attending Eds mini-marathon races to cheer him to the finish line!!
Thanks again to you and Lab Rescue for doing such great work to find homes for these wonderful dogs!!
Bosco

He met
the big dog of the neighborhood and got along great! The huge Collie saw
us walking up the street as he was free to walk down the street. The two
of them met, nose to nose. Bosco gave a playful jump to the left and that
was enough for the Collie. They both walked away.
We are easily motivated to walk Bosco. I mean, how can you not when he
behaves so well?
Chance adores his new baby Jamie.

He
is quite the happy boy especially when he gets to lounge on the couch.
He likes having Mom home all day now so he can spend the afternoons sunning
himself on the back porch.
Thanks again for bringing Chance to our family. He is loved very dearly
and I do believe he feels the same about all of us!!
Happy ending
to 'remarkable story of survival'
Young dog has new lease on life, thanks to Ajax, Pickering
men
By Keith Gilligan, Staff Writer
AJAX -- Thanks to the efforts of a couple of Bobs, Anna Westney is alive
and well.
Bob Dingle of Ajax and Bob Anderson of Pickering at first separately
and then together saved a stray Labrador retriever living along the Duffins
Creek valley south of Hwy. 401. Over the course of three weeks, they were
able to trap the female dog, which is now living in London at a rescue
centre for Labrador retrievers, undergoing rehabilitation before being
adopted.
Mr. Dingle called her Anna, shortening the name from Annandale, while
Mr. Anderson was calling her Westney.
The story began last July when Mr. Dingle spotted an animal walking around
the Annandale golf course. He had a contract with the owners to keep geese
off the course.
"We weren't sure if it was a wild dog or a coyote," Mr. Dingle
said. "I noticed her a few times over the season."
Last Christmas, one of Mr. Dingle's German shepherds was off its leash
running around the golf course and had a run-in with the dog. "Our
dogs chased it across the river, when it was ice. It was out there starving,
eating rabbits."
On Christmas Eve, he began to feed the dog. "In the evening, she'd
come up for her meal."
Mr. Dingle didn't know it, but Mr. Anderson was feeding the dog each
morning behind the Mercedes-Benz dealership on Westney Road. Mr. Anderson
and his daughter Becky were shopping for a car when "I saw this brown
furry thing running around in the field. I went back the next day and
the next and the next and it was still there. So, I started feeding it."
Mr. Dingle said Anna stayed within the area bounded by Church Street,
the train tracks south of Hwy. 401, Westney Road and Bayly Street. It
wasn't until Mr. Dingle and his wife Patricia tracked Anna over to Westney
Road that he found out about Mr. Anderson's efforts. They realized the
situation couldn't continue, given the cold, so they started calling around,
trying to find a way to save the dog. Pickering-Ajax and Whitby Animal
Control tried three times to tranquillize her, but wasn't successful.
Eventually, they were introduced to a trapper, who provided a cage. It
took Anna three weeks to work up the courage to go inside the cage to
get the food, but once in, she was trapped. That happened March 8.
"It's a remarkable story of survival, of a community of people not
giving up. For 10 weeks, every day, we were going down and calling her
out," Mr. Dingle said. "In the initial stage, we didn't know
anything about her."
After its capture, the dog was taken to the PAW shelter in Whitby for
initial treatment before being taken to London.
Whitby resident Diane Ploss, a member of Labrador Retriever Rescue Ontario
(LRRO), drove Anna to London.
"She's doing very well. She's taking it nice and slow. She has a
significant mistrust of humans. Something terrible must have happened
to her," Ms. Ploss said.
Blackie

We are Lab lovers, our family has no desire to own any other breed. The
main reason we love them is their gentle and happy nature, we have a very
calm home and Labs fit into our environment.
One
of the worst moments in our lives occurred Feb. 2001, when we had to have
our black male Lab put to sleep, talk about the best dog in the world,
he was a rescue dog that we brought home at 8yrs of age, he died at 10
1/2 yrs old. We had become so deeply attached to him we couldn't bear
the thought of another dog in our home, unless of course there was a Lab
out there in desperate need of a loving home.
This is where Blackie enters the picture, she had lived in terrible
conditions for 8 years, in a make shift pen outside at the back of a rural
property, she had also been abused, kicked to be precise. As usual we
came to the rescue, but this time as a foster family, funny dogs always
seem to become part of our home immediately, they are always quite calm
and settled, Blackie was no different. So we officially adopted her.
Blackie is actually part Lab & I think, Sheppard because she is really
smart. Blackie is an active happy girl now, she has a tail that not only
wags, but spins around and around!! She is still a bit nervous, I believe
she always will be, but she has come along way, we give her lots of love
and patience, and she repays that by being guard dog on Sat. morning when
she sits outside the house for a couple of hours. She is also protective
of Jessica our 10 year old, yet she is amazing with kids, very gentle
and patient. I would recommend rescuing a Lab
they give back so much more than they take.

Chance

As you can
tell by the photos, Chance is fitting in beautifully! He loves to snuggle
with his mom & dad and our boys William and Daniel just love him.
His new nicknames are "Lazy Pants Chance" and "Mello Yellow".
He and Halley are the best of friends. He mostly enjoys lounging on the
couch but does love to go for walks at the Milton fairgrounds where he
and Halley get to meet up with their many, many doggie friends. When we
took him to the cottage, we were very pleased to find out that he loves
thewater as much as Halley does.
Thanks to everyone at the LRRO for bringing Chance into our family! We
couldn't love him more if we tried.

Miss Ting

Miss Ting is growing up fast and making her family proud with her achievements
in "doggie school". She is quite the lucky pup to have two doting
little girls to help her with her homework.
Sherman

Our
first Christmas with Sherman was so much fun. The best part was watching
him open his gifts so gently and of course seeing him in a Santa hat.
He wore it long enough for me to get a picture and then that was enough
for him.
We did discover that Sherman does have a few
quirks,
but everyday they get better. All in all he is a huge cuddly suck with
everyone he knows well and just not so sure of new people until he has
seen them a few times then he is all over them too for love. Though we
may never know where he came from, or why golf
clubs
terrify him...we do know that he was meant to find us and our world just
wouldn't be the same without him.
Thank you so much for all you did for him and for giving us a chance
to show him what love and home really mean.

The Latest on Ryker

Rykker is doing really well and seems very happy. He is still losing weight
and is now 100 lbs - he has much more energy and really enjoys his walks
- he also plays much more and loves to retrieve.
He has just made 2 new friends - a 10 year old and 2 year old golden
and just loves them - they play like crazy - they are going to be living
across the street for about 3 months. All the neighbours and their kids
just love him and he is the Star of the neighbourhood.
He really does have a personality and lets you know when he does and
does not want to do something and when he wants his cupboard open for
a cookie - I think he likes the idea of rolling over now that he can
do it and shows off constantly. The other thing he loves is his blanket
- when anyone comes he likes to go and get it and show it to them -
he is really a character.
Tex

Tex came to me a little over 8 weeks ago at a mere 60 pounds. He was
a little nervous and shy at first, but I could tell he was going to be
an angel. He's still an absolute angel, gentle, very eager to please,
well-behaved and learning new tricks, not to mention he's now a whopping
75 pounds! Tex is loving his new life in the Toronto Beach, frolicking
in the waves and wrestling in the sand with his friends every lunch time
and evening, then winding down with a snooze on his favourite armchair
every night. Where do they get that expression "working
like a dog" anyway? Needless to say, I am absolutely smitten with my new friend
and so thankful that Lab Rescue thought the two of us would be a great match!!

Zach
Just thought I'd give you an update on Zach. He's doing well, he really likes our sons bed.
I found a Rabbits nest this week in the back yard fortunately before Zach because he really hates Rabbits, unless they come off the BBQ. We didn't keep a very good eye on him and he disturbed the nest. Then the mother didn't come back for 30+ hours so we took them in and are nursing 6 baby Rabbits. It's driving him nuts though having the scent of the enemy (prey) in the house.
